KUALA LUMPUR: The suspension of Road Transport Department (JPJ) services offered through the MYEG Group took effect early Monday, ahead of a news conference at which Transport Minister Anthony Loke is expected to explain the decision.

Loke is scheduled to speak at 11am in the Transport Ministry's media room in Putrajaya, according to Astro AWANI.

The suspension, effective at 12.01am on Oct 5, covers MyEG Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd in their capacity as collection agents for the department.

In an Oct 2 statement, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli attributed the decision to considerations involving compliance with contractual terms and company obligations that remained outstanding or unresolved.

The Transport Ministry was earlier reported to have confirmed that Zetrix AI owed more than RM200 million in road tax and summons payments collected on behalf of JPJ.

The measure covers all JPJ services offered through MYEG Group channels. The department's services remain available through its official and alternative channels.

An exception applies to computerised driving theory tests (KPP01) booked through MYEG before Oct 5. Those bookings can still be honoured.

From Monday, new bookings and the tests themselves must be handled through KPP test centres at driving institutes nationwide.

For non-Malaysians paying traffic fines at the Malaysia-Singapore border, JPJ mobile units will provide payment facilities at Johor's Sultan Abu Bakar Complex and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar between 8am and 10pm.

It has not yet been explained how other transactions already paid for but not completed would be handled, or whether refunds would be necessary.

The arrangement for existing KPP01 bookings does not establish the status of every earlier transaction. That leaves the treatment of other pending payments among the issues still requiring clarification ahead of Loke's appearance.
