KUALA LUMPUR: A former senior executive of a corporation is expected to be charged in court tomorrow in connection with an investigation into losses at UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd, which includes alleged abuse of power over payments of about RM42 million.

The Edge Malaysia, citing a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) statement on Sept 29, reported that the payments involved operating expenses to several companies.

The man, in his 50s, was arrested at his home in the Klang Valley at about 1pm on Monday, Sept 28.

Initial investigations found that he is suspected of approving the payments in 2017 to companies believed to be linked to his interests.

The arrest follows an MACC investigation into UiTM Holdings' losses in 2023.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

The reports did not name the suspect or specify the number of charges to be brought.

Details of the charges and any plea can only be reported once proceedings take place. Allegations under investigation do not amount to a finding of guilt.
