KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is scheduled to meet 25 BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) state assemblymen from Negeri Sembilan tonight to discuss the political crisis in the state.
According to Malaysiakini, Ahmad Zahid said the meeting was aimed at coordinating efforts and hearing proposals, and that several options would be discussed on how the state administration should proceed after the appointments of 10 state executive councillors were revoked.
He said he would hear from the assemblymen what the best option was to resolve the problem.
The 25 assemblymen make up more than two-thirds of the state assembly. The outcome of the meeting was not known at the time of writing.
No grounds for emergency
Ahmad Zahid also rejected suggestions of emergency rule, saying there was no security unrest that warranted such a move, Malaysiakini reported.
The revocation of the 10 exco appointments was gazetted on Sept 24, with effect from Sept 20. Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim is now the only member of the state government still in office.
Statements from former exco members
In a related development, Utusan Malaysia reported that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that statements from the 10 former exco members would be recorded tomorrow.
The investigation follows police reports lodged earlier, including by Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) against Ismail and the 10 exco members. Putra has urged that an investigation be opened under Section 121 of the Penal Code.
Recording statements is part of the investigation process and does not mean that anyone has been charged or found to have committed an offence.
