TUMPAT: Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) officer Norhazwani Ibrahim, 35, who was found dead at government staff quarters near Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Nilai on Thursday, was buried at the Tanjong Muslim cemetery in Pengkalan Kubor here early on Sunday.
Her body arrived at the family home in Kampung Banjir, Telaga Lanas at about 1.10am, where funeral prayers were held before the burial.
Family members, relatives and friends attended the burial.
Her elder sister, Marlina, 46, said the family could not accept the presence of Norhazwani's parents-in-law or her husband's family at the funeral.
"We really cannot accept it if the late one's parents-in-law or her husband's family come," she said.
Marlina said that up to the night before, no one from her husband's family had come to ask after Norhazwani's two children, aged six and five.
Both children are now in Marlina's care in the village. She said in media reports that she had told them their mother died of an illness, and had not disclosed the actual circumstances of the death.
Her brother, Mohd Hazwan, 38, said he had met Norhazwani on the morning of the incident and noticed nothing unusual, other than that she appeared tired after a night shift.
He recorded his appreciation to AKPS, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Royal Malaysia Police and Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban for the assistance given.
Norhazwani was reported to have returned to Kelantan on Oct 12 over a matter at the Syariah Court.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said earlier that the preliminary results of the post-mortem at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital on Saturday identified compression of the neck as the cause of death.
The examination also found three stab wounds from a sharp weapon, two to the abdomen and one to the right cheek.
The stab wounds found on the body are a forensic finding separate from the medical conclusion on the cause of death. Further investigation is needed to establish the sequence of events and the part played by each injury.
Her husband, a man in his 30s, has been remanded until Oct 22 to assist an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. He was detained after going to the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi police station in Sepang, Selangor, to report his wife's death.
Early inquiries point to a possible domestic dispute and matters connected to divorce proceedings. That information forms part of the investigation and is not a conclusion on a proven motive.
Norhazwani was a Customs officer of Grade WK1 before moving to the AKPS service scheme as a border control assistant of Grade KS1, serving at KLIA.
The suspect has not been charged in court, and the allegations against him remain a matter under investigation.
