BANDUNG: Malaysia ended their FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 Division 1 Group A campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Singapore at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium here last night, but the result was not enough to send them into the final.

Naturalised striker Bergson da Silva starred with a hat-trick, while Stuart Wilkin, Paulo Josue and Muhamad Syahir Bashah scored one apiece.

Malaysia went ahead in the eighth minute when Bergson converted a penalty after Singapore defender Ryhan Stewart brought down Fergus Tierney in the box.

Wilkin doubled the lead in the 26th minute from a Manuel Hidalgo delivery, and Malaysia went into the break 2-0 up.

Bergson added his second in the 62nd minute before Josue made it four in the 76th.

Syahir Bashah struck in the 87th minute, and Bergson completed his hat-trick in stoppage time.

It did not change the top of the table. Malaysia and Indonesia both finished on seven points, but Indonesia advanced to the final on goal difference after beating Bangladesh 9-2 in the other match played at the same time.

Indonesia scored twice in stoppage time in that match to secure the goal-difference edge over Malaysia, Kosmo reported.

Malaysia will instead play in the third-place match on Monday, Oct 5, where they are expected to face Vietnam.
